Mandalas represent the universe, and are often used as a focal point for meditation. I can think of no better center emblem for enlightenment than the owl. In ancient Greece, the owl was a symbol of higher wisdom, and a guide to Athena, the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, and strategy. With their keen eyesight, quietness, and 180° head-swiveling, it makes sense that we have such reverence for these beautiful creatures.
